.. _theory: ====================== Theory and Methodology ====================== To represent the complex geometry of the reactor components in greater detail is one of the challenges in reactor core high-fidelity neutronics calculations. NECP-X is capable to accurately represent a variety of the components such as core plates, bottom and top nozzle of the assembly, end plugs as well as upper plenum regions of the fuel rod, spacer grids, radial reflector including the core baffle, barrel, neutron pads and reactor vessel. Grid spacer and radial reflector are explicitly presented since they have significant effects on neutron flux. The majority of a spacer grid is comprised of an orthogonal array of inner straps and outer straps. The entire mass of the inner straps is distributed evenly among the 289 lattice pincells of box with appropriate thickness inside the outer edges of the pincell. For the outer straps, the mass is placed into a box with appropriate thickness surrounding the edge of the assembly. Figure 1 shows two typical modified pincells (the pincell inside a lattice and the pincell at the corner of a lattice) considering the spacer grid. .. figure:: ../_images/treatment_grid.png Figure 1 treatment of the grid spacer Figure 2 shows the treatment scheme of the radial reflector. To deal with these structures, several jagged layers are added outside of the core with thickness of one assembly pitch. Each of the “added” assembly is comprised of 289 square pincells with size of a pincell pitch. The baffle is explicitly simulated to account for its significant effects on power distribution. However, the other structures including barrel, pads and vessel are approximately modeled with these square pincells. Figure 3 gives the details about the treatment scheme of the radial reflector. .. figure:: ../_images/treatment_radial.png Figure 2 treatment of the radial reflector .. figure:: ../_images/treatment_baffle.png Figure 3 details about the treatment scheme of the radial reflector .. toctree:: :numbered: :maxdepth: 1 library resonance transport depletion transient Th_coupling
